Red Star Radio... a new lineup, new songs, a new location and upcoming gigs...
Who?
Original members Chris Thorley (bass) and Guy Lawton (guitar), are now joined by Orla O'Donnell (vocals) and Ben Edward (drums).
What?
We don't do metal, or anything close (just like to clear that up from the start!). We're an indie band, although given the diverse influences of the members (everything from post-punk to prog-rock to shoegaze), this means it's rare if any our songs have a similar sound. We are still playing tracks from our debut album "Beacon On A Black Sea", albeit in a more "stripped-down" and focussed way. However, Chris and Guy have been busy songwriting and recording demos during the winter... the new songs are lyrically refined and generally have a more atmospheric / acoustic direction. They include "Redeemed" , "Blue Skies", "Paper Lanterns", "99 Head-on Collisions", "Where The Line Is Drawn" and "Plans". A new website and more mp3 downloads are in the pipeline...
www.redstarradio.co.uk
Where?
Only one member is still resident in the Telford area, so the majority of our gigs will now be around Leicester / Rutland / East Midlands region.
When?
First gig with the new lineup will be a short acoustic set as guests of House of Spon at the Bethane Spring Fayre in Leicester on 30th April. Find out more here:

See you there!

I had the line-up as this:
Harkesh and Friends
Brett Richardson - local singer/songwriter
Ogum! - tribal rhythmic collective
House Of Spon - popular and talented local group
Scott and John from The Tea Monkeys - city singer/songwriters
So when are Red Star Radio playing? _________________ Great spam email titles No. 42 - "WHO bang my WIFE?" |

I'm in R*R and take it from me, we're not on the bill. Mr.Riviera has got the wrong end of the stick. What was actually said to him was IF HOS run a little short of acoustic numbers we may get to play a couple of numbers to fill the set out.
He should now be put right. If not, he will be tomorrow.
Apologies for any confusion caused. |

Mea culpa - I've edited the first post to reflect the fact that we are simply guesting for the mighty House Of Spon.
But hey, it's a good way of generating some excitement - think I'll book us top of the bill for Glastonbury next! _________________

You can't do that Red Riviera because House of Spon will be headlining all the major festivals for the next five years including more than one stage at the same time. I'll let Camel do the New Bands tent on his own! _________________ Great spam email titles No. 42 - "WHO bang my WIFE?" |

If House Of Spon wanna let you play during their alloted time, and as part of their act, that's entirely up to them. However, you should be aware that there is no PA, and no covers are allowed so all material must be original. If you are going to be playing, I would appreciate being formally advised of this either by HOS or yourselves.
Peace!
_________________ http://www.myspace.com/theteamonkeys |

How about if I formally inform you that two members of R*R might play a couple of songs if the HOS set doesn't quite make the 40 + minutes once we've mangled them into acoustic numbers.
This episode has taught me not to do anything with the best intentions because the band-wagon runs you over, brakes, reverses back over you then drives forward over you again. |

To be fair it is unlikely as I think John would prefer it if we underrun. I do have a 45 minute version of Selfish Confession worked out, including a 20 minute acoustic wammy bar feedback section. After that I will be setting the acoustic on fire and thanking the lord that it doesn't belong to me.
Can I borrow your guitar John? _________________ Great spam email titles No. 42 - "WHO bang my WIFE?" |

I'm really sorry. It's just that I've been given the resposibility of organising the entertainments for this thing and I have to report to the festival organiser. I need to have a formal programme set, and I need all performers to be aware of certain things, such as no covers and no amplification, as that requires additional licensing fees. Peace - I love your bass playing dude!
_________________ http://www.myspace.com/theteamonkeys |

After discussing with the organiser I can assure you all that no member of Red Star Radio will be playing with House of Spon on the 30th whether we have time or not. _________________ Great spam email titles No. 42 - "WHO bang my WIFE?" |
